Federal Judge Halts Early Termination of TPS for Haitian Migrants

A Brooklyn federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to strip Temporary Protected Status from roughly 350,000 Haitian migrants five months ahead of the Biden-era deadline. Judge Brian Cogan ruled that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem lacked statutory authority to “partially vacate” Haiti’s TPS designation before its February 3, 2026 expiration, noting that recipients have built lives—enrolling in schools, holding jobs, and obtaining medical care—relying on that date. The ruling preserves Haitian TPS until at least February 2026, unless DHS follows Congress’s required notice-and-comment procedures for termination. 

“Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill” Star Michael Madsen Dies at 67

Character actor Michael Madsen—best known as the ruthless Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Budd in Kill Bill Vol. 2—died July 3 at age 67. Found unresponsive at his Malibu home, he was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest, according to his manager Ron Smith. Over a four-decade career, Madsen appeared in more than 300 film and TV productions, including Thelma & Louise, Donnie Brasco, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and was preparing a poetry collection titled Tears for My Father at the time of his passing.

Del Monte Foods’ U.S. Subsidiary Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Del Monte Foods Holdings (the American arm of Del Monte Pacific) commenced voluntary Chapter 11 in New Jersey to implement a restructuring support agreement with key lenders. The 138-year-old canned-goods maker secured $912.5 million in debtor-in-possession financing to fund operations through a court-supervised sale process of “all or substantially all” assets. Parent Del Monte Pacific and non-U.S. subsidiaries remain unaffected, and management intends to maintain normal production and distribution during the bankruptcy proceedings.
