Told He Would Never Walk, He Mapped a 67-Mile Thank-You
The story
Andy Constable of Birchington was doing maintenance at a football club when he fell about 16 feet. He broke hip, pelvis, femur, ribs, and back. A lung was punctured. He lost a finger. He was told the injuries would change the rest of his life.
Family and friends stayed. Recovery took a long time. He learned to walk again. He went back to work. He also understood a simple chain: the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance had given him more years with his daughter and, later, a grandson.
What happened next
He walked the Kent coast for the charity in 2024. Then he planned a 67-mile, 24-hour walk from King’s College Hospital to Minnis Bay with friends. Excitement sat next to the memory of a sentence that said he would not walk.
A lesson you can use this week
Turn survival into thanks that other people can join. A hard thing done with friends is often easier to finish than a hard thing done as a private test.
