Jay-Z Opens Two Nights at SoFi Stadium With Blue Ivy and John Legend

Jay-Z played the first of two headlining shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Friday night, Oct. 23, and brought out a short list of guests, according to Variety. His daughter Blue Ivy Carter played keys, Scarface joined him for two songs, and DJ Khaled and John Legend came out for the closing number.

What Happened at SoFi

Variety reported that Blue Ivy Carter played the keys on "The Story of O.J." and "Dead Presidents." Scarface came out for "This Can't Be Life" and his own song "Mind Playing Tricks on Me." DJ Khaled and John Legend joined Jay-Z for the final song of the night.

The set ran about two hours and opened with "Hovi Baby," according to Variety, which also listed "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)," "Run This Town," "99 Problems" and "Empire State of Mind" among the songs performed. Variety described the night as lighter on guests than his earlier stadium dates.

Why the Show Got Coverage

The SoFi dates are part of Jay-Z's yearlong "Jay-Z 30" celebration of his three decades in music. Variety reported that the run began at Philadelphia's Roots Picnic in late May and was followed by three sold out nights at Yankee Stadium, shows in London and Paris, and an eight episode HBO docuseries on his catalog.

At the Yankee Stadium shows, Variety reported, guests included Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem and Blue Ivy Carter. Variety also reported that fans spotted Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams together in a SoFi suite on Friday.

What Is Confirmed and What Is Not

Confirmed: the first SoFi show took place on Oct. 23, and the guests named above performed, according to Variety. SoFi Stadium lists a second show for Saturday, Oct. 24.

Not confirmed: Variety noted online chatter that Jay-Z may perform the Super Bowl halftime show in February 2027, which is scheduled for SoFi Stadium. No halftime performer had been announced in the reporting, and the speculation remains unconfirmed.
