The Los Angeles Times reported that “utility equipment from Pacific Gas & Electric Co. may have sparked the Dixie fire that began last Tuesday, ‘which at this point is responsible for burning some 30,000 acres in the counties of Butte and Plumas.’

The Los Angeles Times report confirmed, “in the report submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission that an employee responding to an outage Tuesday noticed a blown fuse at Cresta Dam in a heavily forested area of Butte County around the Feather River Canyon.”

According to the report and as confirmed in the Los Angeles Times, “the worker approached the pole about 4:40 p.m. and found two blown fuses and a tree leaning into a power lines conductor. While the worker was suspended on the poles he noticed a small fire, the CPUC report stated.

His supervisor reported the fire to 911 dispatch that indicated that they were aware of the fire and sending out help, according to the document.
