He Walked a Ledge to Bring Children Out of Smoke
The story
Toxic smoke trapped families in a top-floor apartment in northern Paris. The drop was about 65 feet. Fousseynou Cissé climbed out a window and moved along a narrow ledge that connected two apartments.
He helped evacuate children and babies. There is no speech that makes that sentence lighter. He used his body as a bridge because the official rescue had not yet finished the job.
What happened next
The story traveled because video makes courage visible. The lesson travels farther if we keep him human: a neighbor who could have stayed inside and did not.
A lesson you can use this week
Most of us will never walk a sixth-floor ledge. We will walk across a hallway. Check on the apartment that smells like smoke. Learn the stairs. Be the person who knocks.
