Louis Braille Was a Student Who Wanted to Read at Night
The story
Louis Braille injured his eye in his father’s workshop and lost his sight as a child. School for blind students still leaned on systems that were slow and public.
He wanted privacy and speed. As a teenager he adapted a military dots idea into something a fingertip could read. Classmates were the first users.
What happened next
The code traveled the world because it worked. He did not live to see how far. Tools outlast egos, which is a kinder immortality than praise.
A lesson you can use this week
When a system fails you, sketch a smaller one that serves the next person in line, not an audience.
