A Woman Planted a Tree She Would Not Sit Under for Twenty Years
The story
Shade is a delayed gift. Heat is not. Cities that plant now buy cooler streets for people who currently cannot vote or walk.
She chose a native tree, watered it through the first two summers, and did not need her name on a plaque.
What happened next
Arbor Day Foundation stories are full of these unglamorous holes in the ground. Future picnics will not know her. That is fine.
A lesson you can use this week
Plant or adopt one tree. Water it when the novelty dies. That second summer is the real donation.
