The Stationery Clerk Who Walked With Her All the Way to a Funeral
The story
Death produces errands. Copies, programs, lists. A daughter became a regular at a stationery shop because grief has a to-do list.
The saleswoman noticed the pattern. On the day of the funeral she treated the customer as someone whose journey she had already been witnessing.
What happened next
The daughter later wrote that she felt less alone. Not fixed. Accompanied. That is a high compliment for a retail counter.
A lesson you can use this week
If you serve the public, learn repeating faces. A sentence like “I’ve been thinking about you” can hold a person upright for an hour.
