Erik Weihenmayer Climbed With a System, Not a Myth
The story
Erik Weihenmayer lost his sight as a teenager. Climbing sounds like the last sport you would pick. He picked it anyway, which is less romance than engineering.
He learned to read a mountain through partners’ bells, weather, and his own feet. Trust had to be trained like muscle.
What happened next
He summited Everest in 2001 with a team. Later climbs and kayak descents kept the same pattern: preparation first, publicity second.
A lesson you can use this week
Whatever you are attempting, name your belayer. If you do not have one, that is the first hire or friendship to make.
