A Bucket Brigade Kept a Beached Whale Wet Until the Tide Returned
The story
A 15-foot minke whale was stuck on rocks at low tide in Seldovia, on Kachemak Bay. Sun and dryness can kill a whale that large before the water comes back.
People formed a bucket brigade. For hours they poured water over a body that could not save itself. It was repetitive, wet, unglamorous work.
What happened next
The whale faced about six hours of danger. The town answered with arms and buckets. Good News Network carried the pictures because cooperation is still news.
A lesson you can use this week
When a problem is too big for one person, invent a line. Many hands doing a boring task will beat one person looking for a clever fix.
